The ideal place for integrated farming

By reducing our environmental footprint at Château Argadens we are protecting not only the future of our vineyard, but that of the generations to come:

- No herbicide is used on any of our newly planted vines: we work our vines by mechanical means.

- The old chemical fertiliser has been replaced by "green manure crops".

- Since our arrival at Château Argadens, the volume of all agricultural products has been reduced by half.

Thanks to this, Château Argadens was one of the first Bordeaux estates to obtain ISO 14001 certification, an international reference standard of environmental protection, as part of the EMS (Environmental Management System) developed by the Bordeaux Wine Trade Council (CIVB).

This same commitment earned us the Agriculture Raisonnée quality label for integrated farming practices – a guiding light for consumers in an evermore standardised product offering.

And, lastly, HVE 3 certification: this French acronym stands for "High Environmental Value – level 3/3" and is the most recent addition to measures under the Grenelle de l'Environnement process.

Château Argadens is also a natural habitat: as soon as springtime comes to the château, life returns to the beehive, vegetable garden and hedges, forcing us to take a more respectful, caring view of our day-to-day surroundings.

And nature is returning the favour: for the past three years, Italian gladiolus (a protected species) and wild daffodils have begun to grow naturally again between the vines...
